THAI SUMMER FAIR- 9th YEAR
Thai Summer Fair – 9th year On Sunday 5th August 2012
At The Kings Park, Boscombe, Bournemouth, Dorset.
The Bournemouth Thai Language and Culture School established in March 2003 for Thai children who have Thai parent or Thai mother and English father. Ages from 5-15 years old, every Sunday from 13.30 -15.30 pm at The Bourne Spring Centre, St.Mary's Road, Springbourne, Bournemouth BH1 4QP.
In the first time, the pupils at the school in 2003 had to meet the fees themselves(60/m), later the same year Bournemouth Borough Council became aware of the school and understood that more children could be helped if funding was made available and pay 100/year.
The Bournemouth Thai Language and Culture School provides an opportunity for children and young people from mixed heritage families (Thai – English) to meet socially and explore Thai culture and language. The Thai school provides 2 groups:
1. The Thai School provides a class to teach Thai language to children age 5-12 year old and teaches parents how to bring their children up as bilingual.
2. Teaching Thai music (Thai musical Instruments) for the children age 7-15 years old.
The Thai School provides an annual cultural event; The Thai Summer Fair. The Thai Fair delivers an inclusive, accessible and unique programme of Thai culture, tradition and language. The Fair brings together the growing Thai community as well as attracting local residents and a large number of visitors into the area. Last year the Thai Summer Fair attracted approx. 6,000 people. The Thai festival gives an opportunity to showcase the diverse culture that exists in Bournemouth, providing an array of opportunities for participation and involvement.
Sources of funding from the below :- • Parent donation • Thai restaurants and companies • Entry fee from people attending the Thai Summer Fair
